At Prairie Yoga, we love hosting Julie Francis for both specialized workshops and Feldenkrais class series. Julie brings a sense of freshness to each presentation while she consistently builds upon the teachings of somatic and subtle movements. Foundations of the Feldenkrais® Method

The Feldenkrais® Method is known as a way of finding ease in physical movement, but it is really much more than that. Rather than being about the body, Feldenkrais is about learning, and learning how to learn. Moshe Feldenkrais used movement as his metaphor because it is readily accessible to everyone. During this workshop, we will use movement to explore the underlying principles behind the method and how to make our endeavors – from learning to play an instrument to doing yoga – about learning as opposed to simply doing.
Open to anyone.

I’ve taught this program as a short-form workshop several times to rave reviews. Now, I’m offering it in an expanded version. This on-line class will allow more time for longer breathing lessons in addition to quick, in-the-moment breathing strategies for easing anxiety – ALL from the comfort of your own home or office. There will also be time to share experiences with the lessons and to ask questions. If you ever feel stressed or suffer from anxiety, this class is for you.

ANXIETY IS THE NAME WE GIVE TO THE PHYSICAL SENSATION that arises when our natural breath pattern is disrupted and held. Learn to shift your personal sense of anxiety by changing how you breathe. In this workshop, you will experience a Feldenkrais approach to learning to breathe more freely and fully. We’ll combine longer breathing “lessons” designed to re-acquaint your nervous system to organic, effortless breath with quick, in-the-moment, tips for shifting anxiety when it arises.

In this workshop, you will use awareness and movement to experience the possibility of shifting your patterns of muscular contraction to attain a more neutral stance and emotional state. This sense of neutrality in carriage and emotion is felt and observed as having a powerful presence. From this place of neutrality, you unburden yourself from unnecessary muscular effort and emotional constraint, and free yourself to respond appropriately to life.
