Calm Your Nerves #8 – The Power of Music

music_1Whether it’s a Sousa march or Gregorian chanting, music has the ability to lift your spirits and soothe your soul.

Some music, Mozart for instance, has been proven to calm the nerves. Other styles are more individual in their effect. The trick is knowing which songs and genres elevate your mood and which drag you down.

Next time you’re listening to the radio, or even the latest “elevator” music at your local market, make a mental note of the tunes that perk you up and find you singing along. Then, when you feel you need a little comfort or an emotional boost, seek out your “happy” songs.

Want to unwind after a long day? Pandora actually has a Mozart channel.

And don’t discount those tear jerking songs that tug at your heartstrings. A little catharsis can do wonders – as long as delving into the depths doesn’t becoming a depressing habit. If you catch yourself continually reaching for the sad ballads, it may be time to pick up the beat, belt out a song and dance the night away.
