Accentuate the Positive

Your brain is wired to seek the negative. It’s how you avoid touching a hot stove. Do it once and forever after your brain sends little chemical signals throughout your body every time you come near a stove. “Alert. Alert,” they cry and you react by using caution. A stellar strategy when the threat is real.

Everyday life is filled with potential threats that truly aren’t “real” and we store them up until we lock up ourselves, if not housebound fraught with agoraphobia, then physically with muscle tension, headaches, digestive issues, anxiety and generalized fear of life.

Next time you catch yourself tensing and/or focusing on things not so pleasant, take a little tip from Johnny Mercer. Your body will love you for it.
